Looking for a new nanny position can be overwhelming and exhausting. I know that the longer I’m looking for the perfect position, the more frazzled my brain gets if I am not laser focused on what I am seeking. It is important for me that I work for a family that has similar parenting styles and goals for the children. My best advice for someone currently seeking a new nanny position would have to be, always be prepared to interview the family as they interview you!

Finding childcare and a nanny can be daunting for parents. It shows initiative and drive when a potential candidate shows interest in the family and their career as a nanny. Below is my short list of questions that have helped me narrow down the potential families I wanted to work for.

What is their parenting style?

How do they correct/mold the behavior of their children to be more appropriate?

Are they okay with you driving the children and going on outings?

Are play dates allowed/encouraged?

What values do they want their children to adopt?

Does the family have any spiritual or religious beliefs?

What will my responsibilities be?

What will my salary be? What kind of payroll will be used? How often will I get paid?

How many vacation and sick days will I receive?

Will I have guaranteed hours?

Are they willing to work with my contract?

I hope these help you if you are in the process of interviewing families! Please let me know what your “must ask” questions are in the comments!
